East and West, the two hands of one body—one offers ancient healing, the other modern knowledge.

Dana Cutzu MD

Acupuncture, Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, Functional Medicine and Herbal Medicine located in Asheville, NC

I have been a practicing physician for over 20 years. My training began in New York, where I completed both my residency and geriatrics fellowship. Following that, I joined Memorial Sloan Kettering, where I spent five years immersed in cancer care, deepening my understanding of complex illness and the strength of the human spirit. I later joined the geriatrics team at Mission Hospital in Asheville, serving as an attending and mentoring fellows to improve the quality of care for older adults.

For the past 13 years, I have worked as a Hospitalist at Mission Hospital, practicing acute internal medicine. I continue this work today, alongside a broader vision of medicine that honors both evidence and intuition. My approach has been shaped not only by clinical experience, but also by

my upbringing in a family of physicians who practiced medicine as a lifelong art—one rooted in presence, curiosity, and care. I believe deeply that healing begins when we take the time to understand the root, not just the symptom.

In pursuit of a more complete understanding of the body and mind, I have completed additional training in Functional Medicine, IV infusion therapies, and Medical Acupuncture for Physicians.

I am also educated in native herbal medicine, which I view as a profound biochemical ally — complementing, and at times offering an alternative to, conventional pharmaceuticals and their side effects.

Through acupuncture, I have come to understand that healing can occur on multiple levels. On one side, there is the physical body, with its symptoms and treatments. On the other, there is a more subtle level—an energetic field of patterns and frequencies through which the body communicates and self-regulates. Both are real, both are vital, and together they allow for a more complete approach to healing. This integrative path is not separate from Western medicine, but rather, a way of deepening its reach.

In my practice, I maintain close collaboration with specialists across disciplines, including Functional Medicine, permaculture, and earth-based healing workshops—inviting the body to reconnect with the rhythms of nature and the quiet intelligence of healing. We also offer Qi Gong classes as a gentle and powerful practice to support balance, breath, and inner vitality.

In my free time, I enjoy being with family, traveling, and discovering the Divine in the most subtle, ordinary moments—where quiet beauty often reveals itself.
